Okemah resident sentenced to 22 months for intent to harm with a firearm

Cainen Isaac Shephard, a 23-year-old resident of Okemah, Oklahoma, has been sentenced to 22 months in prison. He received this sentence after pleading guilty to one count of assault with a dangerous weapon with the intent to do bodily harm in Indian Country.

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma stated that this case arose from a joint investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Okemah Police Department. According to the investigation, on July 2, 2024, Shephard targeted a pickup truck carrying three passengers in the parking lot of an Okemah apartment complex. Although he intended to harm the driver, no injuries were reported.

The incident took place in Okfuskee County, which is within the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Reservation and the Eastern District of Oklahoma. Chief U.S. District Judge Ronald E. White presided over the sentencing at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma.

Shephard will be held in the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service until he is transferred to a United States Bureau of Prisons facility to serve his non-paroleable sentence. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael E. Robinson.
