Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau and Panamanian Foreign Minister Javier Martínez-Acha recently held a call to discuss strengthening U.S.-Panama relations. According to Spokesperson Tammy Bruce, the conversation focused on mutual priorities.
Deputy Secretary Landau expressed his thanks for Panama’s collaboration, particularly in curbing illegal immigration. He highlighted the joint efforts that have led to a significant decrease, "a nearly 98 per cent decrease in illegal immigration through the Darien jungle."
The discussion also touched on Panama's role in reducing "malign CCP influence." Another topic was Panama's audit of Hutchison's control over concessions at two ports bordering the Panama Canal, a significant area of interest for both parties.
Both officials have committed to continued cooperation to enhance the "safety, security, and prosperity of United States and Panama."
