As Holy Week approaches, the Laredo Port of Entry is preparing for a significant rise in international traveler traffic through the South Texas border, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations. Laredo Port Director Alberto Flores stated, “As we approach Holy Week, we traditionally see a significant increase in vehicular traffic at our ports of entry.” To manage this increase and decrease wait times, travelers are encouraged to use the CBP Home app for tourist permits, check border wait times, and choose their crossing locations accordingly.
A variety of measures are set to be implemented at the Laredo Port of Entry to maintain smooth traffic flow. These include electronic tourist permits and an off-site I-94 processing facility at the Outlet Shoppes at Laredo opening from April 6–19. Additional lanes at the Juarez-Lincoln Bridge's old CBP Import Lot will be available as needed to manage vehicular traffic.
U.S. citizens are reminded to carry a Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative-compliant document, such as a valid passport or Trusted Traveler Program card, for reentry into the United States. Noncitizens attempting entry without the proper documentation may face expulsion or removal.
Travelers are encouraged to have WHTI-compliant entry documents ready at inspection points and declare items over $10,000. The CBP Home app provides updates on border wait times and the option to apply for a provisional I-94 entry permit. Also, the BWT app, available for smartphones, offers hourly updates on wait times to aid in decision-making for border crossing.
To avoid penalties related to prohibited agricultural items, travelers should declare all such items to a CBP officer and consult the “Know Before You Go” guide.
