Mexican national sentenced to prison for illegal U.S. reentry after three prior deportations

A Mexican national was sentenced to two years and six months in federal prison for illegally reentering the United States. David Lopez-Guillen, 48, was convicted of reentering the U.S. after having been deported or removed three times prior.

The case was brought to light in Russell County, Kentucky, on April 14, 2022, when Lopez-Guillen was discovered in the U.S. following a history of deportations on January 19, 2001, April 25, 2005, and August 31, 2020. This marks Lopez-Guillen’s second conviction for illegal reentry in the Western District of Kentucky.

U.S. Attorney Michael A. Bennett from the Western District of Kentucky, Special Agent in Charge Rana Saoud of Homeland Security Investigations Nashville, and Sam Olson, Field Office Director for Enforcement and Removal Operations in Chicago, announced the sentencing.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark J. Yurchisin II, of the U.S. Attorney’s Bowling Green Branch Office, prosecuted the case. It was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations in Bowling Green and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations.

The conviction comes as part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide Department of Justice initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration and organized crime. The operation brings together resources from the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces and Project Safe Neighborhood.
