Matthew Quaglieri, a former teacher from Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, received a sentence of 14 years in prison for possessing child pornography, as announced by Timothy M. O'Shea, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin. The sentence, given by U.S. District Judge William M. Conley, will be followed by 25 years of supervised release. Quaglieri pled guilty to the charge on January 13, 2025.
The case originated in October 2022, when law enforcement was alerted to a middle school in Sun Prairie over concerns that Quaglieri was filming students as they used the urinals in school bathrooms. A search of Quaglieri’s iPad revealed recordings of at least 39 minors. Quaglieri admitted to having filmed boys at the school for four to five years.
During sentencing, Judge Conley described Quaglieri's conduct as "predatory and abhorrent," highlighting the betrayal of trust within the school environment. Conley noted Quaglieri's lack of understanding regarding his actions.
The investigation was conducted by the Sun Prairie Police Department and the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Louis Glinzak and Elizabeth Altman prosecuted the case.
This case was part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse by coordinating resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute offenders, and to rescue victims. More information on the initiative can be found at www.justice.gov/psc.
