U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has taken Edvin Giovanni Ceron-Reyes, a 37-year-old illegal alien and Guatemalan citizen, into custody in Cumberland, Maryland. Ceron-Reyes was arrested on March 31 following his transfer from the Western Correctional Facility to ICE custody. Ceron has a conviction for attempted first-degree murder.

"The apprehension of this convicted attempted murderer demonstrates the critical role that immigration enforcement plays in protecting our communities," stated ICE Baltimore Acting Field Office Director Nikita Baker. "Thanks to an honored immigration detainer, this dangerous criminal alien was safely transferred into ICE custody instead of being released back into the public. ICE Baltimore remains steadfast in our commitment to enforcing our nation’s immigration laws and prioritizing public safety."

Ceron-Reyes entered the United States at an undisclosed date and location without inspection, admission, or parole by an immigration official. He was arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder by the Howard County Police Department on July 7, 2011. On the same day, ICE Baltimore placed an immigration detainer with the Howard County Detention Center. The Circuit Court for Howard County convicted Ceron of two counts of attempted first-degree murder on January 19, 2012, sentencing him to 20 years in prison.

Ceron received a final order of removal from ICE Baltimore on September 13, 2013. On March 31, the Western Correctional Institution transferred him to ICE Baltimore's custody, where he will remain pending his removal to Guatemala.
