The U.S. Department of Labor announced a resolution with John Troyer, a Jamesport roofing contractor, following a federal investigation into a fatal fall involving a young worker in March 2023. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) found that Troyer, who owns Troyer Construction LLP, operating as Troyer Roofing & Coatings, did not provide necessary fall protection for workers.

Additionally, the department's Wage and Hour Division discovered that Troyer was in violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act by employing minors for roofing work between May 2022 and June 2023.

Under the terms of the agreement, Troyer is required to pay a total of $290,000. This sum includes $156,259 in penalties imposed by OSHA, $15,000 in penalties for child labor violations, and $118,741 in criminal fines to the U.S. Department of Justice. The company is also obligated to join Missouri's On-Site Safety and Health Consultation Program.
