Hayden O’Byrne United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida | The Florida Bar
A Nigerian national, Uwa Nosakhare, has been sentenced to six years in federal prison for orchestrating a fraud scheme involving the impersonation of property owners for fraudulent property sales. Nosakhare and his associates attempted to sell vacant lots in Palm Beach County, Florida, without authorization from April 2022 to April 2023. They used personal identifiable information (PII) of property owners and other victims to forge documents such as driver licenses, notary credentials, and bank statements. After fraudulent sales, proceeds were transferred to accounts controlled by the culprits.
The sentencing follows Nosakhare's guilty plea to aggravated identity theft and mail fraud in January. "The sentencing comes after the defendant pleaded guilty to aggravated identity theft and mail fraud in January," stated U.S. Attorney Hayden P. O’Byrne for the Southern District of Florida. The announcement was made alongside Acting Special Agent in Charge Brett Skiles of the FBI, Miami Field Office, Acting Special Agent in Charge José R. Figueroa of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Miami, Sheriff Ric Bradshaw of the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO), and Chief Michele Miuccio of the Boca Raton Police Department.
The case was investigated by the FBI Miami, HSI Miami, PBSO, and the Boca Raton Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Justin Chapman prosecuted the case with Assistant U.S. Attorney Emily Stone managing asset forfeiture.
