A Guatemalan national has admitted guilt in a Boston federal court for unlawfully reentering the United States after being deported. Domingo Valentin Solis-De Leon, 29, pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien. U.S. District Court Judge Nathaniel M. Gorton has set the sentencing for June 10, 2025. Solis-De Leon faced an indictment by a federal grand jury in February 2025.
Solis-De Leon was first arrested by United States Border Patrol on January 8, 2014, near Hidalgo, Texas, after entering the country illegally. Subsequently, he was deported back to Guatemala. Immigration authorities later discovered on January 6, 2024, that Solis-De Leon was back in the United States. His presence was confirmed following an arrest by the Lynn Police Department on state charges related to assault and battery on a family or household member. This case is still pending in Lynn District Court. After being released from state custody, Solis-De Leon was rearrested by immigration authorities on January 28, 2025, in Lynn, Massachusetts.
The charge of unlawful reentry of a deported alien carries a potential sentence of up to 20 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000. Upon completion of a sentence, the defendant will be deported. Sentences are determined by a federal district court judge guided by U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and related laws.
The announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston. Assistant U.S. Attorney Luke A. Goldworm of the Major Crimes Unit is handling the prosecution of the case.
