Two Monroe County men face drug trafficking and firearms charges

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania announced the indictment of Eli Valentine Calero, 43, of East Stroudsburg, and John Charles Ehrhard, Jr., 56, of Stroudsburg, on charges related to drug trafficking and firearms. The indictment, issued on April 8, 2025, claims their involvement in drug activities between May 2024 and March 2025 in Monroe County, Pennsylvania.

Acting U.S. Attorney John C. Gurganus stated that the charges include conspiracy to distribute over 500 grams of methamphetamine. It is alleged that Ehrhard, Jr. distributed methamphetamine on several occasions and illegally possessed a firearm and ammunition due to a past felony conviction. On March 12, 2025, Calero is alleged to have possessed over 500 grams of methamphetamine and cocaine with intent to distribute.

The investigation was conducted by the FBI and the Pennsylvania State Police. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jenny P. Roberts is prosecuting the case. This prosecution is part of Operation Take Back America, an initiative intended to combat illegal immigration, dismantle cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and address violent crime. The operation is linked to the Department of Justice’s Project Safe Neighborhood.

If convicted, the defendants face a maximum penalty of life imprisonment, supervised release, and a fine. Sentencing will follow federal laws and guidelines if the court finds them guilty.

It is essential to note that indictments are accusations and all individuals are considered innocent until proven guilty under the judicial process.
