Boscobel man sentenced to more than ten years for meth distribution

Timothy T. Duax U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Iowa

A Boscobel man was sentenced to over ten years in federal prison after pleading guilty to possessing ice methamphetamine with intent to distribute.

Hunter Newberry, 23, entered his guilty plea on October 31, 2024, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The evidence presented showed that law enforcement stopped Newberry on January 27, 2024, and found nearly two pounds of methamphetamine in his car. Newberry confessed to having obtained the methamphetamine from Madison, Wisconsin, with plans to distribute it in the Dubuque area. Between December 2023 and January 2024, he admitted to acquiring at least ten pounds of methamphetamine for distribution in Dubuque.

United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand handed down Newberry's sentence of 140 months' imprisonment, followed by five years of supervised release. "There is no parole in the federal system," ensuring that Newberry will serve his complete sentence. He remains in the custody of the United States Marshal until his transfer to a federal prison.

Michael S.A. Hudson, Special Assistant United States Attorney, prosecuted the case. The investigation was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Dubuque Drug Task Force, which includes the Dubuque Police Department and the Dubuque County Sheriff's Office.
