Protecting American Consumers Together (PACT) released a survey examining voter concerns in U.S. Senate battleground states regarding the rising cost of living and the impact of lawsuit abuse on expenses. Conducted by Public Opinion Strategies in March 2025, the survey covered Georgia, Maine, Michigan, New Hampshire, and North Carolina.
The findings indicate that a significant number of voters believe lawsuit abuse contributes to increasing prices for goods and services. "Lawsuit reform represents a clear opportunity for Senators, backed by compelling voter concerns about cost of living and strong support for reform measures," noted Public Opinion Strategies in their memo to PACT. They added that "82% of voters say their overall cost of living has gone up, with 61% directly connecting lawsuit abuse to rising prices for American families."
Lauren Zelt, Executive Director of PACT, emphasized the potential benefits of addressing lawsuit abuse: "Ending lawsuit abuse, which costs the average American family $4,200 per year, is a clear opportunity for U.S. Senators to make a tangible difference for their constituents." She also mentioned that voters are seeking "a more transparent system that treats plaintiffs with the respect they deserve."
The survey highlights include:
- 82% report an increase in their overall cost of living over the past year.
- 61% link lawsuit abuse to higher costs for families.
- 67% support reforms to eliminate the hidden tax from lawsuit abuse.
- Specific reforms such as transparency on fees paid to attorneys received strong backing.
The poll involved 1,500 likely voters and has a margin of error of +/- 2.53%. For further details or interviews regarding the results, contact laurenzelt@protectingamericanconsumers.org.
