U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has successfully completed the removal of Hedilberto Nunez Garay from the United States. Nunez, aged 41, was sought by authorities in Durango, Mexico, in relation to the aggravated homicide of Eladio Carrasco Corral on September 3, 2020.
ICE executed the transfer on April 9, escorting Nunez from the Montgomery Processing Center in Conroe, Texas, to the Juarez-Lincoln Bridge Port of Entry in Laredo, Texas. There, he was handed over to Mexican officials.
ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Houston Field Office Director Bret Bradford commented on the situation, stating, "For far too long, dangerous foreign fugitives like this alleged murderer have been able to illegally enter the U.S. and hide out in our local communities to evade prosecution abroad for violent crime." He added that these actions are part of a broader effort, with local law enforcement in Texas united to address the issue, pursuing foreign fugitives, gang members, and other criminal aliens.
Nunez initially entered the U.S. illegally on unspecified dates and locations. He was arrested in Yorkville, Illinois, by the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office on November 12, 2007, for driving without a license and later exited the U.S. on an undisclosed date. Reentering illegally on April 29, 2022, he was caught by the U.S. Border Patrol near Eagle Pass, Texas, and expelled under Title 42. Nunez's third illegal entry date and location remain unknown. Thanks to a tip from the National Criminal Analysis and Targeting Center, he was located by ICE with assistance from local agencies and detained on June 4, 2024. An immigration judge later ordered his removal on October 30, 2024, and an appeal was dismissed by the Board of Immigration Appeals on March 20.
ICE encourages the public to report information about foreign fugitives via the ICE Tip Line at 1 (866) 347-2423 or 001-1802-872-6199 internationally. Tips can also be submitted through ICE’s online form.
