A New Orleans man was sentenced to 75 months in prison for firearm possession related to drug trafficking. Joshua Williams, 21, faced sentencing by Chief U.S. District Judge Nannette Jolivette Brown on March 27, 2025. Williams will also undergo five years of supervised release and pay a $100 special assessment fee. This followed his guilty plea for possessing a firearm during drug trafficking activities, contrary to 18 U.S.C. § 924(c)(1)(A)(i).
Court records reveal that officers of the New Orleans Police Department recovered marijuana for sale, a digital scale, and two firearms from Williams' home on April 4, 2022. The firearms included a Glock Model 22 and a Glock Model 19. Williams intended to use these in his drug distribution activities.
This prosecution is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, which integrates law enforcement and community efforts to reduce violent crime and gun violence. The Department emphasized its 2021 strategy to enhance PSN, focusing on trust, community support, strategic enforcement, and evaluation of outcomes.
The New Orleans Police Department and the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives conducted the investigation, while Assistant United States Attorney Mary Katherine Kaufman handled the prosecution.
