U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Ysleta international crossing in El Paso seized 119.3 pounds of methamphetamine on April 11. This seizure involved a car being driven by a 32-year-old Mexican man.

CBP Ysleta Port Director Arnie Gomez stated, "This seizure represents the dedication of CBP employees who work hard every day to stop the flow of drugs from entering our communities."

The incident occurred just before 1 p.m. when a 2000 Jeep Cherokee with a single occupant arrived from Mexico. The vehicle was selected for a secondary examination after a low-energy portal scan revealed anomalies. A CBP drug-sniffing dog alerted officers to the rear of the car, leading to a search that uncovered 110 bundles in the spare tire compartment. The packages contained methamphetamine.

Following the discovery, CBP officers arrested the driver, who was transferred to Homeland Security Investigations agents to face charges under 21 U.S. Code 952 for the importation of a controlled substance.

CBP, the nation's largest law enforcement organization, plays a crucial role in protecting America's borders and facilitating legal travel and trade. The agency employs over 65,000 personnel dedicated to safeguarding the country on land, in the air, and at sea.
