ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS STORY

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has taken Thomas Afram Chammo, a 27-year-old Lebanese citizen, into custody in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on April 3. Chammo, who entered the United States through Dallas, Texas, on July 12, 2024, held a non-immigrant visa for military training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.

Chammo was scheduled to return to Lebanon on December 5, 2024, following his training, but he did not board his flight and was subsequently considered absent. ICE's Dallas Field Office was responsible for his arrest. Chammo is currently held in ICE detention and awaits immigration removal proceedings.

As someone who entered on a non-immigrant visa, Chammo is entitled to a judicial hearing on whether he can remain in the United States or if he will face deportation.
