U.S. authorities have detained a Cuban national in Miami for alleged immigration violations. Daniel Morejon Garcia, aged 57, was apprehended at his residence by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), in collaboration with the FBI and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

ICE Homeland Security Investigations led the inquiry, discovering that Morejon Garcia reportedly made fraudulent statements to gain entry into the United States. Official Cuban government documents and other credible information obtained during the investigation indicated that Morejon Garcia failed to disclose his membership in the Cuban Communist Party and the Cuban Ministry of the Interior in his immigration applications.

Authorities claim Morejon Garcia held positions such as the President of the National Defense Council in Cuba's Artemisa region and was part of the Rapid Response Brigades. These brigades are citizen groups trained by the Cuban government to support law enforcement during social unrest. Allegations state that Morejon Garcia was active during the July 11, 2021, protests in Cuba and assaulted protesters.

Currently, Morejon Garcia is in ICE custody, awaiting deportation from the United States.
