Brazilian national sentenced to 30 months for firearm trafficking

A Brazilian national has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for firearm trafficking offenses. Matheus Peroba, 21, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Margaret R. Guzman. Peroba, who previously lived in Summerville, S.C., entered a guilty plea in December 2024 to trafficking in firearms and the unlawful shipment of a firearm through the U.S. mail. Upon completing his sentence, Peroba will face deportation proceedings.

Peroba, originally from Brazil, entered the United States illegally around 2019. Before moving to South Carolina, he lived in Fall River and Braintree, Massachusetts, between 2019 and 2022.

Authorities identified Peroba as a source of firearms illegally shipped from South Carolina to Massachusetts. Items seized during the investigation include a Glock 26, a Diamondback Firearms, model DB9, among others. Additionally, law enforcement confiscated a Glock 43 along with magazines and ammunition.

The announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley, alongside James M. Ferguson, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, Boston Field Division, and Ketty Larco-Ward, Inspector in Charge of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service’s Boston Division. The Milford Police Department provided valuable assistance. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Danial E. Bennett from the Worcester Branch Office.
