Lucas Tavares, a 34-year-old man from Fargo, ND, was sentenced to eight years in federal prison for committing a Hobbs Act Robbery. Acting United States Attorney Jennifer Klemetsrud Puhl announced the sentencing by Chief Judge Peter Welte, which also includes three years of supervised release and a $100 special assessment fee.
Court documents reveal that on March 5, 2024, Tavares committed a robbery at Loaf ‘N Jug, located at 1201 N. University Ave, Fargo, ND. During the incident, an employee reported that Tavares held a knife to his neck. Detectives from the Fargo Police Department identified Tavares as the suspect and apprehended him on the day of the crime. Subsequently, a federal grand jury indicted him for one count of Hobbs Act Robbery, to which he pleaded guilty on January 13, 2025.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation, and the case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office, District of North Dakota, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard Lee leading the prosecution.
