The U.S. Attorney's Office has announced federal firearms charges against 24 individuals as part of the ongoing 'Make D.C. Safe Again' initiative. Since the initiative's launch, according to U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin, Jr., these measures are being implemented to enhance safety in the capital by targeting felons with firearms.
U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin, Jr. stated, "Make no mistake: our mission is to Make D.C. Safe Again by getting felons with guns off our streets and out of our communities. The President’s Executive Order demands law and order and a safe national capital. That’s exactly what we’re delivering."
In April alone, six new federal firearms cases have been charged by the U.S. Attorney’s Office. The initiative has led to the removal of more dangerous offenders from the streets. Recent examples of these cases cover individuals charged for unlawful possession of firearms following arrests in various districts.
This initiative aligns with President Trump's Executive Order to Make D.C. Safe and Beautiful. It focuses on curbing gun violence, emphasizing federal firearms violations, seeking stricter penalties, and advocating detention for violators.
Investigation of these cases is being conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Metropolitan Police Department.
It must be noted that an indictment is only an allegation, ensuring all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
