Clinton J. Johnson U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Oklahoma
In November 2024, Preston James Campbell, 42, was found guilty of assaulting a federal officer with a deadly or dangerous weapon. The sentencing took place with U.S. District Judge Robert L. Hinkle presiding, who imposed a sentence of 130 months of imprisonment followed by three years of supervised release. This sentence is to be served consecutively with an additional 21-month sentence already imposed for violating previous supervised release terms, bringing the total to 151 months in federal prison.
Evidence presented during the trial revealed Campbell's prior convictions in federal court for firearm possession as a felon and for committing an assault resulting in serious bodily harm. In 2024, he breached the conditions of his supervised release, prompting the issuance of an arrest warrant. Body camera footage revealed Marshall's attempts to detain Campbell, during which he charged at a deputy while wielding a knife. The deputy managed to deflect the knife, averting serious injury.
Currently, Campbell is being held as he awaits transfer to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons.
The investigation involved the U.S. Marshals, Creek County Sheriff’s Office, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Muscogee (Creek) Nation Lighthorse Police, Bristow Police Department, and Kellyville Police Department. The prosecution was handled by Assistant U.S. Attorneys George Jiang and Elliot Anderson.
