Tangipahoa Parish resident faces indictment for fentanyl-related charges

A resident of Tangipahoa Parish has been indicted following charges related to the distribution of fentanyl, which allegedly resulted in a death. Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson announced that on April 9, 2025, authorities unsealed an indictment against 29-year-old Kyrin Hudson. The indictment accuses Hudson of distributing a substance containing a detectable amount of fentanyl, leading to a victim's death, in violation of federal law under Title 21, Sections 841(a)(1) and 841(b)(1)(C).

If convicted, Hudson could face a mandatory minimum sentence of twenty years in prison, with a potential maximum of life imprisonment. The indictment also carries a fine up to $1,000,000.00, at least three years of supervised release after imprisonment, and a mandatory $100 special assessment fee.

Acting United States Attorney Simpson acknowledged the efforts of the Drug Enforcement Administration Fentanyl Overdose Response Team, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, and the Hammond Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Lauren Sarver and Rachal Cassagne of the Narcotics Unit.

This case falls under Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative by the Department of Justice aimed at combatting illegal immigration, dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and protecting communities from violent crime. The operation combines resources and efforts from the Department's Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces and Project Safe Neighborhood.
