U.S. Attorney Sarcone announces key supervisory appointments in Albany office

United States Attorney John A. Sarcone III has announced two senior supervisory appointments at the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Lisa M. Fletcher will serve as Chief of the Criminal Division, and Cyrus P.W. Rieck will take on the role of Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division. They join other incumbent senior managers, such as First Assistant United States Attorney Daniel Hanlon and Chief of the Civil Division Karen Folster Lesperance.

Sarcone remarked, "I am pleased to make these appointments which I believe add great depth of experience and perspective to our decision-making to better serve the Northern District of New York and the mission of the Department of Justice."

Lisa M. Fletcher's career at the U.S. Attorney's Office began in 1999. Before her new appointment, Fletcher was Deputy Criminal Chief and Project Safe Childhood Coordinator. Her earlier experience includes serving as an Assistant District Attorney in New York and Onondaga Counties. She graduated from Niagara University in 1986 and St. John’s University School of Law in 1989.

Cyrus P.W. Rieck, who joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office in 2014, previously held the position of Supervisory Assistant U.S. Attorney. His career also includes time as an associate at Orrick, Herrington, and Sutcliffe, LLP, and as a law clerk for Judge Paul A. Crotty and Judge John T. Copenhaver, Jr. Rieck graduated from Tulane University in 2005 and from the University of Miami Law School in 2008.

Daniel Hanlon joined the office in 2008, having served as Criminal Chief, Deputy Criminal Chief, and Narcotics Chief before his current appointment. Prior to this, he was an Assistant District Attorney in Rensselaer County. Hanlon graduated from SUNY Binghamton in 1992 and from Albany Law School in 1996.

Karen Folster Lesperance has been with the office since 2012. Prior to becoming Civil Chief, she was Deputy Civil Chief and worked as an associate with McCabe and Mack LLP, as well as Testa, Hurwitz and Thibeault LLP. Lesperance is a 1995 graduate of SUNY Albany and a 1999 graduate of Albany Law School.
