Ethiopian national sentenced to 12 years for Gulfport supermarket robbery

An Ethiopian national has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for an armed robbery at a Gulfport supermarket.

Court documents detail how Milki Ibrahim entered the supermarket on February 23, 2024, brandishing a black handgun and demanding money from the cash register, saying, “Give me the money or I will shoot y’all right now.” The employee complied, handing over $1,200. Ibrahim issued a threat to return and harm those at the store should they contact authorities.

Store employees identified Ibrahim, and a review of his cellphone showed images of him in the same clothing worn during the robbery, taken the day before the incident. These clothes were later found at his home, along with a firearm matching the one used in the robbery.

In December 2024, Ibrahim pled guilty to the charge.

The announcement was made by Acting U.S. Attorney Patrick A. Lemon of the Southern District of Mississippi and FBI Special Agent in Charge Robert Eikhoff. The investigation was conducted by the FBI and the Gulfport Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Lee Smith handling the prosecution.

This case falls under Operation Take Back America, which aims to combat illegal immigration and transnational crime, utilizing resources from the Department of Justice's various task forces.
