A Pawtucket man, Calvin Tavarez, has been sentenced to five years in federal prison after being found guilty of supplying fentanyl to a member of a drug trafficking conspiracy. The announcement came from Acting United States Attorney Sara Miron Bloom.
Tavarez, aged 30, admitted to a federal judge that he provided fentanyl on at least two occasions to the conspiracy member. He pleaded guilty on January 29, 2025, to conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute fentanyl. U.S. District Court Judge Mary S. McElroy delivered a sentence of 60 months in incarceration, followed by four years of federal supervised release.
The prosecution was handled by Assistant United States Attorneys Peter I. Roklan and Stacey A. Erickson. The investigation into the matter was carried out by the Rhode Island FBI Safe Streets Task Force. This task force includes agents and law enforcement officers from various agencies such as the FBI, Rhode Island State Police, and multiple local police departments from Cranston, Woonsocket, Pawtucket, West Warwick, and Central Falls. Additionally, the U.S. Marshals Service and the Rhode Island Department of Corrections were involved in the investigation.
