Man from West Virginia admits to methamphetamine distribution

Nelson Cortes, a 50-year-old man from Beverly, West Virginia, has confessed to participating in the distribution of methamphetamine. Court records reveal that Cortes conducted some of his methamphetamine sales from his residence.

The charges that Cortes faces could lead to a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison. The final sentencing will be determined by a federal district court judge, who will consider the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines along with other statutory factors.

The government’s case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen Warner. The investigation was carried out by the Mountain Region Drug Task Force, supported by the HIDTA program.

The proceedings were overseen by U.S. Magistrate Judge Michael John Aloi.
