Dominican national indicted for illegal reentry into the United States

A Dominican national, Carlos Yuniol Pimentel-Ortiz, 38, has been indicted in Boston on charges of illegally reentering the United States following deportation. The federal grand jury returned an indictment against him for one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien. Pimentel-Ortiz is expected to make a future appearance in federal court.

The indictment states that Pimentel-Ortiz was deported from the U.S. around November 7, 2023. It alleges that he returned to the country illegally at some point thereafter and was discovered in the United States on March 21, 2025.

The offense of unlawful reentry of a deported alien can result in a prison sentence of up to 20 years, along with three years of supervised release and a fine up to $250,000. Following any imposed sentence, the defendant faces deportation. Sentencing will be determined by a federal district court judge in accordance with U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other relevant statutes.

The announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations in Boston. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert E. Richardson of the Major Crimes Unit.

The indictment contains mere allegations, and Pimentel-Ortiz remains presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
