Memphis man sentenced to over 11 years in prison for weapons and drug charges

Reagan T. Fondren Acting United States Attorney for the Western District Of Tennessee | U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee

Christopher Young, also known as Christopher Minnis, has been sentenced to 11 years in federal prison followed by four years of supervised release. The sentence was announced by Joseph C. Murphy, Jr., Interim United States Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee. Young was charged with possession of a machinegun, possession of 121 grams of fentanyl with the intent to distribute, and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

Court documents reveal that on December 9, 2021, Memphis Police Department officers observed Young driving erratically in a black Chevrolet Corvette with fraudulent tags. When officers attempted a traffic stop, Young fled on foot but was soon apprehended in a neighbor’s backyard. At the time of his arrest, Young was in possession of 121.81 grams of fentanyl and a Glock 9mm caliber pistol. The firearm had an extended magazine and a machinegun conversion device, making it fully automatic.

Young pled guilty on January 6, 2025, before United States District Court Judge Thomas L. Parker and received his sentence on April 10, 2025.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Raney Irwin. It involved investigations by the Memphis Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
