Marc H. Silverman, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, along with Harry Chavis, Special Agent in Charge of IRS Criminal Investigation in New England, announced that Analia Mountzoures of East Lyme has pleaded guilty to a tax charge in a federal court.

Mountzoures accepted responsibility by pleading guilty before U.S. District Judge Kari A. Dooley in Bridgeport. Waiving her right to a formal indictment, Mountzoures, the owner of Mountzoures Cleaning, admitted to the federal tax charge.

Court documents detail that Mountzoures Cleaning employed around 10 workers, servicing over 200 clients in southeastern Connecticut. Despite this, from 2018 to 2023, Mountzoures paid her employees in cash, bypassed required wage reporting, failed to withhold employee taxes, did not issue W-2 forms, and avoided paying federal employment taxes. She also provided false information to her tax preparer, leading to personal tax returns that understated her income and taxes owed.

An example from 2023 indicated that Mountzoures reported her gross receipts as $12,095, with taxes before credits of $1,450. The actual gross receipts amounted to approximately $628,072, with taxes due of around $96,650.

As part of the proceedings, Mountzoures agreed to pay $380,167.60 in restitution to the IRS. She has also pleaded guilty to the charge of aiding and assisting a false tax return, which could result in a maximum sentence of three years in prison. Sentencing is set for July 22, and Mountzoures remains released on a $40,000 bond until the court's decision.

The investigation was conducted by the IRS Criminal Investigation Division, and the case is being handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher W. Schmeisser.
