A Brazilian national residing in Massachusetts has entered a guilty plea in a federal court in Boston to charges related to firearm sales without a license. Gideoni De Oliveira Moutinho, 32, admitted to one count of conspiracy and one count of engaging in the business of dealing firearms without a license. His sentencing is slated for May 22, 2025, under U.S. District Court Judge Leo T. Sorokin. He was arrested and charged on September 17, 2024.
Between January 2, 2024, and August 30, 2024, Moutinho conducted sales of seven firearms on six separate occasions, receiving cash payments. During February 2024, he also engaged in a conspiracy to facilitate the sale of one of these firearms.
Both charges, dealing firearms without a license and conspiracy to engage in the business, carry potential penalties of up to five years in prison, three years of supervised release, and fines up to $250,000. Moutinho faces possible deportation following any sentence served. The actual sentence will be decided by a federal district court judge, guided by the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and relevant statutes.
