The American Petroleum Institute (API) has expressed approval following the Department of the Interior's recent announcement regarding a new commingling policy aimed at increasing oil production in the Gulf of America. The policy is designed to enhance resource conservation by allowing safe production from multiple reservoirs.
Holly Hopkins, Vice President of Upstream Policy at API, said, "We applaud Secretary Burgum’s action to unleash the Gulf of America’s vast energy resources in support of U.S. energy dominance. Today’s announcement ensures new technologies and innovation can be fully leveraged to support safe and efficient offshore oil production in the Gulf as a critical source of affordable energy, government revenue and national security."
API represents various segments within the U.S. natural gas and oil industry, which supports nearly 11 million jobs across the country. The organization is backed by a grassroots movement involving millions of Americans. API's approximately 600 members are involved in producing, processing, and distributing most of the nation's energy supply. They also participate in initiatives like API Energy Excellence, which aims to accelerate environmental and safety progress through new technologies and transparent reporting.
Founded in 1919 as a standards-setting organization, API has developed over 800 standards focused on enhancing operational safety, efficiency, and sustainability within the industry.
