U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Houston has apprehended David Gonzalez-Gallegos, a 40-year-old Mexican national, following his release from a Texas state correctional facility. Gonzalez-Gallegos, who has entered the United States unlawfully on at least three occasions, was previously convicted on charges including arson, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and driving under the influence.

"The current administration's focus on restoring integrity to our immigration system and the support from law enforcement partners has allowed us to quickly identify and remove violent illegal aliens like him from the country and enhance public safety in our communities," stated Bret Bradford, Director of ICE Enforcement and Removal Operation Houston Field Office.

Gonzalez-Gallegos first entered the U.S. illegally and was apprehended near El Paso in May 2006, after which he was returned to Mexico. He entered the U.S. illegally again and was not encountered by U.S. immigration officials until his 2013 arrest for arson. After serving a sentence for this crime, he was transferred to ICE custody and deported in July 2015.

Entering the U.S. for a third time, Gonzalez-Gallegos was convicted of DUI in Mississippi in 2021. In 2022, after being arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, ICE officers again encountered him at the Dallas County Jail. He was convicted of aggravated assault in 2023, resulting in a three-year prison sentence at the Huntsville Unit. Recently transferred into ICE custody on April 25, Gonzalez-Gallegos is being held at the Montgomery Processing Center in Conroe, Texas, awaiting deportation.
