Alex Patin-Patin, a 28-year-old resident of South Burlington, Vermont, has been sentenced to time served for re-entering the United States illegally after a previous removal. This decision was handed down by United States District Judge Mary Kay Lanthier on April 29, 2025.
The United States Attorney's Office for the District of Vermont reports that Patin-Patin, an Ecuadorian national, initially entered the U.S. unlawfully near Santa Teresa, New Mexico, in February 2022. After being ordered removed by a U.S. Immigration Judge in June 2022, Patin-Patin was deported around July 7, 2022. The circumstances of his re-entry remain unclear, but his presence in the U.S. was discovered following an arrest in April 2024 in South Burlington, Vermont, for separate charges.
Acting United States Attorney Michael P. Drescher acknowledged the work of Enforcement and Removal Operations, part of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, in finding Patin-Patin and aiding in the prosecution. The legal proceedings were managed by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Michelle Arra and Matthew Lasher, with Assistant Federal Public Defender Steven Barth representing Patin-Patin.
