Honduran national faces indictment for illegal reentry into the United States

A Honduran man, Bryan Javier Perez-Espinoza, age 33, has been indicted on charges of reentry of a deported alien, according to an announcement by Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson. Perez-Espinoza was indicted on April 24, 2025, under Title 8, United States Code, Section 1326(a).

Court documents reveal that Perez-Espinoza, described as an illegal alien, was discovered in Orleans Parish on March 23, 2024. He had previously been deported back to Honduras on September 30, 2022.

Upon conviction, Perez-Espinoza could face a maximum sentence of two years in federal prison, a fine of up to $250,000, up to three years of supervised release, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.

Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson emphasized, "an indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt."

Acting U.S. Attorney Simpson commended the efforts of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection in investigating the situation. The prosecution is led by Assistant United States Attorney Spiro G. Latsis of the General Crimes Unit.
