The U.S. Department of Labor Secretary, Lori Chavez-DeRemer, marked National Apprenticeship Day by hosting a ceremonial signing event with the International Association of Fire Fighters. The event took place to emphasize the significance of apprenticeships in unlocking opportunities for American workers.

The National Apprenticeship Day 2025 event specifically celebrated the IAFF's new National Apprenticeship Guideline Standards and acknowledged the union’s dedication to training firefighters and emergency personnel through the Registered Apprenticeship model.

Since 2015, National Apprenticeship Week has served as an annual platform for employers, educators, state agencies, and unions to promote the benefits of Registered Apprenticeships. Over the past decade, more than 1.9 million individuals have participated in over 10,000 events, and approximately 1,800 proclamations have been issued in support of these programs. Although traditionally held in the fall, National Apprenticeship Week will shift to the spring starting in 2026, based on feedback from stakeholders.

The Trump Administration has pledged to enhance and expand the National Apprenticeship system through executive orders aimed at preparing Americans for skilled trade jobs and advancing artificial intelligence education. These initiatives aim to bolster Registered Apprenticeships, modernize workforce development, educate youth in technology, and invest in upskilling workers.

This year's National Apprenticeship Day will feature nearly 1,000 events and proclamations nationwide, showcasing collaborations between various stakeholders.

Lori Chavez-DeRemer stated, “As we celebrate National Apprenticeship Day, this administration remains committed to expanding and strengthening registered apprenticeships, guaranteeing the skilled workforce necessary for businesses to thrive.” She expressed her commitment to exceeding one million active apprentices to empower workers for high-demand jobs, further enhancing economic prosperity.
