A Mexican national made his first appearance in court on charges of reentering the United States after being deported three times previously. Audencio Vazquez-Calletano, 31, is facing one count of being a deported alien found in the U.S. A preliminary hearing is set for May 13, 2025, before U.S. Magistrate Judge Elayna J. Youchah.
The criminal complaint alleges that Vazquez-Calletano, a citizen of Mexico, was deported from the U.S. on three separate occasions: May 13, 2011, February 22, 2012, and June 21, 2024. Despite these prior deportations, he reportedly reentered the country illegally on or before April 14, 2025.
On April 14, 2025, Vazquez-Calletano was apprehended by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol near Searchlight, Nevada. He attempted to flee but was caught. His record indicates a prior felony conviction for vehicle theft in Santa Barbara County, California.
If found guilty, Vazquez-Calletano faces up to ten years in prison, a three-year supervised release term, a $250,000 fine, and a $100 special assessment.
The announcement was made by United States Attorney Sigal Chattah for the District of Nevada and Salt Lake City Field Office Director Michael Bernacke.
The investigation was conducted by the ICE Salt Lake City, Las Vegas Sub-Office, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Nevada is prosecuting the case.
The public is encouraged to report crimes and suspicious activities through the hotline 866-DHS-2-ICE or by completing the online tip form.
It is important to note that a complaint is merely an accusation, and Vazquez-Calletano is considered innocent until proven guilty.
