The U.S. Department of State's Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs has announced a reward of up to $500,000 for information leading to the arrest or conviction of Alejandro Arias-Monge, also known as “Diablo.” Arias is a key figure in a violent transnational criminal organization and has been identified as the most wanted fugitive in Costa Rica. He is wanted on charges including drug trafficking, robbery, aggravated homicide, and money laundering in Costa Rica.
The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) reported that Arias has collaborated with various drug traffickers and organizations to transport significant quantities of cocaine from Colombia. The drug route reportedly runs through Costa Rica, Honduras, and Guatemala, eventually reaching Mexico, with the final destination being the United States. Arias' group is said to employ social media platforms for intimidation, posting images of firearms and threatening messages directed at the public and government officials, along with videos of violent acts. Authorities have identified criminal cells under Arias' control in all of Costa Rica’s provinces.
The reward, authorized under the Transnational Organized Crime Rewards Program (TOCRP), is part of efforts to combat global transnational crime. Those who have information are encouraged to contact the DEA via text, WhatsApp, or Signal at +1-956-517-7023, or by email at CRInfo@dea.gov. Information can also be relayed through any U.S. embassy or consulate outside the United States or at a local DEA field office within the country.
Confidentiality is assured for all informants, and government officials and employees are not eligible for the reward.
