Anaheim man found guilty on federal child sexual exploitation charges

E. Martin Estrada, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney's Office for the Central District of California

An Anaheim man has been found guilty of federal child sexual exploitation crimes, sentencing him to potentially up to 30 years in prison. Jonathan Gonzalez-Reyes, aged 38, was convicted on charges including production, distribution, and possession of child pornography, relating to acts committed against a thirteen-year-old girl.

During a three-day trial, evidence revealed that Gonzalez-Reyes, alongside 32-year-old Nanci Jasmin Castillo, had assaulted a minor - referred to in court as "Minor Victim 1" - in February 2021. The victim was provided with alcohol and assaulted while semi-conscious, and the incident was recorded.

"Jonathan Gonzalez-Reyes, 38, of Anaheim, was found guilty of one count of production of child pornography, two counts of distribution of child pornography, and one count of possession of child pornography." Gonzalez-Reyes has been in custody since June 2024.

The investigation, which involved a search of their devices by law enforcement, unveiled child sexual abuse material depicting both the victim and the defendants. Further, it was discovered that Gonzalez-Reyes shared this material with Castillo.

In September 2021, Gonzalez-Reyes knowingly possessed and distributed explicit images of the minor. United States District Judge David O. Carter is set to pronounce the sentence on July 28, with Gonzalez-Reyes facing a minimum of 15 years' imprisonment.

Castillo, who also admitted guilt in February of this year, faces identical penalties and will be sentenced alongside Gonzalez-Reyes on July 28. The FBI conducted the investigation in collaboration with the Anaheim Police Department.

The legal proceedings are being conducted by Assistant United States Attorneys Chelsea Norell and Blake Hannah.
