Acting U.S. Attorney Michael M. Simpson has announced that Kylin Sexton, 25, a Hammond resident, pleaded guilty on April 24, 2025, to possession with intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance. This act violates the United States Code, Sections 841(a)(1), 841(b)(1)(C), and 841(b)(1)(D). Sexton could face up to 20 years in prison, a fine of $1,000,000, supervised release ranging from 3 years to life, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.
Chief U.S. District Judge Nannette Jolivette Brown is set to sentence Sexton on July 24, 2025.
Previously, on October 10, 2024, Sexton pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of ammunition, violating 18 U.S.C. §§ 922(g)(1) and 924(a)(2).
Court documentation reveals that on May 18, 2022, the Ponchatoula Police Department responded to a complaint about Sexton and a co-conspirator possessing a firearm. Officers discovered Sexton and the co-conspirator in a vehicle. They were ordered out, but the co-conspirator initially refused to comply. Officers found a Glock Model 17 handgun with a machine gun conversion device known as a "Glock switch," loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition, in the vehicle.
In addition, a green backpack on the driver's side floorboard, where Sexton was seated, contained marijuana and cocaine hydrochloride.
The investigation was carried out by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and the Ponchatoula Police Department. The case is prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Brittany Reed of the Violent Crime Unit.
