Bureau of Global Talent Management Senior Bureau Official Lew Olowski will preside over the Department of State's 60th annual Foreign Affairs Day, scheduled for Friday, May 2, at 9:30 a.m. ET. The event is intended for both active and retired employees of the Department of State and other Foreign Affairs agencies. It will take place in the Loy Henderson Auditorium at the Department of State.
Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau is to deliver the keynote address during the Foreign Affairs Day opening plenary session and provide remarks at the American Foreign Service Association (AFSA) Memorial Plaque Ceremony at 10:15 a.m. ET in the C Street Lobby.
AFSA President Tom Yazgerdi will lead the memorial ceremony, recognizing those who have lost their lives while serving overseas under violative circumstances unique to the Foreign Service. Deputy Secretary Landau will honor the memory of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving abroad.
The Memorial Plaque Ceremony is accessible to the press, with final access for media personnel fixed at 9:45 a.m. ET from the C Street Entrance.
Both the opening plenary session (9:30 a.m.-10:10 a.m. ET) and the Memorial Plaque Ceremony (10:15 a.m.-10:45 a.m. ET) will be broadcast live on the State Department's YouTube channel. Media representatives wishing to cover the ceremony must present valid identification, including a U.S. Government-issued identification card, a media photo identification card, or a letter from their employer verifying their status as a journalist.
