Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) President and CEO Eric Fanning has reacted following the release of the President's Budget Request. Fanning highlighted the association's goal of advancing investments that support national defense, aviation safety, and leadership in space exploration and innovation.
"Every year, as the President prepares his budget request, the Aerospace Industries Association champions investments that will strengthen our national defense, keep our skies safe, and reaffirm our position as leaders in space exploration and innovation," Fanning stated.
While still awaiting further budget specifics, Fanning expressed cautious optimism regarding the President's proposal for increased funding for the Federal Aviation Administration. "We are initially encouraged by the President’s proposed budget increase for the Federal Aviation Administration, which will enhance the safety of the flying public and modernize our airspace," he noted. He also praised the administration's emphasis on artificial intelligence and workforce development — noting their importance to the industry's future.
However, Fanning voiced concerns over the proposed cuts in civil space funding, which could impact key NASA spaceflight and science programs, jeopardizing the space sector's supply chain and numerous specialized jobs. Fanning stated, "These programs are vital for maintaining our global innovative edge and should be enhanced."
Additionally, Fanning addressed the budget's provisions for the Department of Defense. "We are also troubled by the lack of increased investment for the Department of Defense at a time when bold action is needed," he said. The proposed budget was criticized for lack of alignment with President Trump's strategy of "peace through strength," inadequately supporting military readiness and innovation.
Fanning concluded by stating, "AIA will continue to work with President Trump, his Administration, and Congress to arrive at the right funding levels to deliver for our industry and the United States."
