Ray & Mascari Inc., based in Indianapolis, Indiana, has issued a recall for its 4 Count Vine Ripe Tomatoes due to potential Salmonella contamination. The tomatoes, packaged in clamshell containers weighing 20 ounces, were distributed with UPC# 7 96553 20062 1, and a master case labeled with either Lot# RM250424 15250B or Lot# RM250427 15250B.
Salmonella can lead to serious infections, particularly in children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Symptoms may include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In severe cases, the infection can spread to the bloodstream, causing more serious conditions.
The affected tomatoes were sold through Gordon Food Service Stores in several states, including Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Mississippi, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and Wisconsin. The recall was initiated following notification from Hanshaw & Capling Farms of Immokalee, Florida, who identified the potential contamination at their facility.
"The recalled lots have been noted as having potential for contamination," a representative explained, emphasizing that no illnesses have been reported so far.
Customers who bought the contaminated tomatoes are advised to discard them and avoid consumption. Questions or concerns can be addressed to Ray & Mascari Inc. by calling 1-317-637-0234, available Monday through Saturday from 6 am to 5 pm EST.
