Nathanial A. Lazanis, a 43-year-old resident of Omaha, Nebraska, has been sentenced to 130 months in federal prison for the distribution of child pornography. The sentencing took place on April 30, 2025, under United States District Judge Brian C. Buescher in Omaha's federal court. Acting United States Attorney Matthew R. Molsen confirmed the details of the case.
Upon release from prison, Lazanis will serve a five-year term of supervised release and is required to pay $3,000 in restitution to each of three identified victims.
The investigation began on September 25, 2023, when a Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) investigator used BitTorrent investigative software to connect directly to a device at Lazanis’s address. The investigator downloaded files containing child pornography that were made available by Lazanis’s device. The IP address linked back to his residence in Omaha.
On October 24, 2023, NSP executed a search warrant at Lazanis’s home and seized electronic devices for forensic examination. During questioning, Lazanis admitted to using BitTorrent for searching and downloading child pornography. Investigators found that his computer was actively downloading such content during the search.
Forensic analysis revealed that Lazanis possessed at least 3,828 image files and 256 video files of child pornography on his devices. These included explicit material involving prepubescent children and depictions of masochistic conduct.
This case falls under Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse online through coordinated efforts by federal, state, and local resources.
The Nebraska State Patrol conducted the investigation into this case.
