Aerospace Industries Association (AIA) President and CEO Eric Fanning issued a statement following the release of the President's Budget Request. Fanning emphasized the importance of investments in national defense, aviation safety, and space exploration.
"Every year, as the President prepares his budget request, the Aerospace Industries Association champions investments that will strengthen our national defense, keep our skies safe, and reaffirm our position as leaders in space exploration and innovation," Fanning stated.
The AIA expressed initial approval of the proposed budget increase for the Federal Aviation Administration. This increase aims to enhance public safety and modernize airspace. The association also acknowledged the administration's focus on artificial intelligence and workforce development as crucial priorities for the industry's future.
However, concerns were raised regarding significant proposed cuts to civil space funding. These cuts could impact NASA's key spaceflight and science programs which support a healthy space supply chain and skilled jobs. "These programs are vital for maintaining our global innovative edge and should be enhanced," Fanning noted.
Fanning also highlighted worries about insufficient investment in the Department of Defense. He stated that "bold action is needed" to support production capacity, military readiness, and technological innovation necessary for homeland defense and securing priority theaters like the Indo-Pacific.
"AIA will continue to work with President Trump, his Administration, and Congress to arrive at the right funding levels to deliver for our industry and the United States," concluded Fanning.
