Ranje Reynolds, a 28-year-old from Beltsville, Maryland, was found guilty of first-degree murder and other charges in connection with a fatal shooting in Georgetown. The verdict was delivered by a jury and announced by U.S. Attorney Edward R. Martin Jr. and Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department.
The sentencing is set for July 25, 2025, as scheduled by Superior Court Judge Jason Park.
According to the evidence presented by the government, Reynolds and the victim, Tarek Boothe, were friends who had worked together at a marijuana dispensary on Eton Court for two years. On January 31, 2022, an argument broke out between them at their workplace. Later that evening, around 6:00 p.m., Boothe left the dispensary and went to the corner of 33rd and M Street N.W., where he waited for his ride home. Reynolds followed him there, sat beside him briefly before leaving momentarily, only to return seconds later to fatally shoot Boothe in the eye. Reynolds then fled to Jamaica on February 3, 2022. He was brought back to the United States on September 15, 2022, to face charges.
The investigation into this case was conducted by the Metropolitan Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Natalie Hynum and Jessica Keefer led the prosecution.
