Nigerian man pleads guilty to cyberstalking linked to Pennsylvania case

Imoleayo Samuel Aina, a 27-year-old Nigerian man, has pleaded guilty to several charges related to the sexual extortion and death of a young man in Pennsylvania. United States Attorney David Metcalf announced that Aina entered his plea before Judge Joel H. Slomsky on Monday. The charges include cyberstalking, interstate threat to injure reputation, receiving proceeds of extortion, money laundering conspiracy, and four counts of wire fraud.

Aina was arrested alongside co-defendant Samuel Olasunkanmi Abiodun in Nigeria and extradited to the United States on July 31, 2024. Both men were charged by indictment in August 2024 along with another co-defendant, Afeez Olatunji Adewale.

Aina is set for sentencing on August 11 and could face a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. Abiodun previously pleaded guilty in December to money laundering conspiracy and wire fraud charges; he will be sentenced on June 10 with a potential maximum sentence of 100 years. Adewale remains in Nigeria awaiting extradition.

The case was investigated by the FBI and the Abington Township Police Department and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Patrick Brown. The extradition process involved cooperation from various entities including the Justice Department’s Office of International Affairs, the FBI Legal Attaché in Abuja, Nigerian security authorities, notably Nigeria’s Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, as well as other relevant departments.
