A Guatemalan national has been sentenced in a Boston federal court for illegally reentering the United States after deportation. William Estuardo Rodriguez-Botello, 39, received a sentence of three months in prison followed by one year of supervised release. Upon completing his sentence, he faces deportation.
Rodriguez-Botello pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien during the hearing presided over by U.S. District Court Judge Indira Talwani. His indictment by a federal grand jury occurred in February 2025.
Originally entering the United States unlawfully in 2005 and again in 2012, Rodriguez-Botello was removed to Guatemala on both occasions. He returned illegally once more after his 2012 removal. On February 3, 2024, immigration authorities discovered his presence in the U.S. following an arrest by the Waltham Police Department for operating under the influence of liquor (second offense). Before Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) could take action, he was released from custody.
On February 4, 2025, immigration authorities encountered Rodriguez-Botello again after another arrest and subsequent release from custody pending a case in Dedham District Court.
The announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and Patricia H. Hyde, Field Office Director at Boston's U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Luke A. Goldworm from the Major Crimes Unit.
