St. Louis man sentenced to nine years for fatal shooting

U.S. District Judge Sarah E. Pitlyk has sentenced Clayton Pierce Davis, a St. Louis resident, to nine years in prison for a shooting incident that occurred in 2023. Davis, aged 39, admitted guilt in November to the charge of being a felon in possession of ammunition.

The incident took place on July 4, 2023, when Davis was celebrating with others in St. Louis. Following a Fourth of July event, the group proceeded to a shop located at the intersection of Gravois Avenue and Chippewa Street in south St. Louis. An argument ensued during which Davis discharged 12 shots from a handgun, resulting in the death of one man and injury to his girlfriend. Reports indicate that at least one victim was armed and the woman fired back once.

Due to his status as a felon, Davis is prohibited from possessing firearms. His criminal history includes convictions for robbery, riot in a penal institution, dog fighting, stealing, and assault.

The investigation into this case was conducted by the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department alongside the FBI. The prosecution was led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Torrie Schneider.
