A Sioux City man has been sentenced to over nine years in federal prison following a guilty plea for possession of a firearm by a felon. Alpacino Lewis Jr., 24, was sentenced on April 25, 2025, after his arrest stemming from an incident on February 14, 2024.
During the incident, Lewis attempted to evade police during a traffic stop. He collided with a police vehicle and drove over a parking meter before losing control of his car. After abandoning the vehicle, he tried to flee on foot but was apprehended. Authorities discovered a stolen loaded semiautomatic firearm along his escape route and found marijuana residue and THC products at his residence.
Lewis's criminal record includes previous charges related to controlled substances such as marijuana and methamphetamine. His sentence was handed down by United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand in Sioux City. In addition to the prison term, Lewis will serve one year of supervised release without parole upon completion of his sentence.
The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative by the Department of Justice aimed at reducing violent crime through community collaboration and targeted enforcement against high-risk offenders.
Currently held in U.S. Marshal custody, Lewis awaits transfer to federal prison. The investigation was conducted by the Sioux City Police Department with prosecution led by Assistant United States Attorney Forde Fairchild.
