The America First Policy Institute (AFPI) released a statement from Governor Bobby Jindal and Sarah Frey. Jindal, who chairs AFPI’s Healthy America initiative, and Frey, Senior Advisor for Rural Policy and AFPI’s Farmers First initiative, commended recent efforts by the International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA) and the Trump Administration.
The IDFA has announced its "Healthy Dairy in Schools Commitment," aiming to eliminate certified artificial colors in dairy products sold to K-12 schools under the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program. This move is seen as a proactive effort by the dairy industry to prioritize health.
Governor Jindal said, "Last week the International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA) announced that they are taking the initiative to help Make America Healthy Again through their Healthy Dairy in Schools Commitment. We applaud this action, undertaken voluntarily by America’s dairy industry to eliminate the use of certified artificial colors in dairy products sold to K-12 schools for use in the National School Lunch Program and/or School Breakfast Program, as a key example of proactive private industry-based efforts to put Americans and their health first."
Furthermore, they praised the Trump Administration's commitment to combating diet-related chronic diseases and promoting healthier eating habits. "We also commend the Trump Administration for taking the lead on committing to fight diet-related chronic disease and encouraging fresh food production and healthier eating habits. America’s farmers and food and beverage manufacturers are essential to making Americans healthier and we encourage more industries to look to the IDFA commitment as a model for following that lead," they added.
